Ghost Shrimp it is!

Well, on an outing to my local fish store, I decided to check and see what shrimp they had if any. Ghost shrimp were the only thing they carried, and seeing as my Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate levels tested clean (check out the nitrogen cycle), I thought I would give some of these a shot as my first shrimp!!!

Instant drama arose as the Neon tetra closed in to inspect the new tank-mates. Only time will tell if the Neon's will leave the shrimp in peace... or pieces :*(

Dadgum Crazy Shrimp!!!

Well, as I have researched more about shrimp colonies and different breeds of shrimp I came across the Mantis Shrimp. One of the largest pet shrimp, and definitely one of the coolest. It punches creatures with a retractable claw that moves at 23 miles/second... Which is apparently the same speed as a .22 calibre bullet. It is a saltwater shrimp, however, so my having one will have to be put on the wish-list...

Apparently they are not only powerful but intelligent. I'm not sure if i believe this next video :/.

Just starting out.

I just got a used 20 gallon aquarium, that I intend to use for a shrimp colony. To start i got several Water Sprite, some Java Moss, along with several Neon Tetra to start cycling my tank. I made my own sponge filter from some spare parts, and hope to be housing shrimp within a few weeks!

I haven't fully decided which type of shrimp I want to end up with in the tank, but I'm fairly certain that I will start with Red Cherry Shrimp since they are the easiest to care for and learn with while starting out.
